When it is rest and relaxation you seek but you are not in the mood for dealing with the airline hassles or an energy draining drive, then a “staycation” is what the doctor ordered. I have found 10 boutique hotels in the Houston area that can fill that Rx.
The Hotel Sorella located at CityCentre, is an Italian inspired oasis that is sure to please the senses. You and your loved one, as hotel guest, can take advantage of two complimentary pre-dinner cocktails in the exquisite Monnalisa® bar, and sip them from the outdoor patio overlooking CityCentre’s central plaza. For dinner try one of several, extraordinary dining spots within walking distance and/or catch the latest blockbuster at Studio Movie Grill. After dinner you all can, sit on the lawn in the plaza and listen to a live band play a wide range of sounds, from smooth jazz to Caribbean steel drums. Retire to your luxurious room or suite for a well deserved restful night and finish up with continental breakfast for two in the lobby lounge. Repeat after me “Date Night Done Right! “
Looking for a spot with a downtown chic vibe and an uptown sophisticated feel? Well, Magnolia Houston is that place. Named the best boutique in Houston, by The Houston Press, I can personally agree with that, as Lucius and I spent sometime here a few years ago celebrating his birthday. It is still one of my favorite get-away “date-cations”. Located centrally downtown you could plan to spend the evening shooting pool in the hotel’s billiards room, sipping champagne in their ultra-hip lounge or by the terrace pool overlooking the Houston skyline or you all could shop, dine, or pub crawl in the numerous businesses located nearby. Whatever you all choose to do, leave the option open to stay an extra night because I am certain you will want to!
More of a Granola Girl than a Glamazon? Then Deer Lake Lodge Resort and Spa is the spot for you! Located just north of the Woodlands in the Conroe area you can enjoy the serenity of the natural surroundings while still being close to the city. Bring an open mind (for psychic readings), your yoga mat, and your sweetie. Be prepared to reset, rejuvenate and refresh your romance. Couples massage anyone? Yes please!
Have you ever felt like you found a rare gem, and you can’t believe it was right there in front of you? You didn’t have to hire an archaeology team to dig it up, or go into some remote cave way on the other side of the world, to find it. Well that is how I feel about La Maison Bed and Breakfast. This place is beautiful, and it is right here in Houston’s midtown! I must admit that I am typically not a fan of B&B’s because the connotation brings up images of lace doilies, antique furniture and floral-patterned china, none of which I am a fan of. But La Maison has a certain je ne sais quoi about it. There are 7 rooms all decorated exceptionally, yet each one is uniquely different. Surely you will find something that suits your taste. Check out this award winning Inn the next time you need an “Escape in the City”.
Hotel Za Za located in the museum district, is an art piece all on it’s own. I giggle when I say the name because I hear Zsa Zsa Gabor’s sexy, Hungarian voice in my head when I do. But trust and believe that Hotel Za Za is nothing to laugh about. From the minute you walk through the custom carved wrought iron entrance doors you feel as though you are transported into another time and place. Opulent, sophisticated, luxurious are all words you will utter repeatedly. Staying here is not just another hotel stay. It is an experience. They have 14 themed concept suites that just blew me away. From the Italian Opulence of the Bella Vita Suite to the Japanese inspired Geisha House, Hotel ZaZa leaves you ooooing and ahhhhhing as you try and take it all in. This place is what other boutique hotels aspire to be. A 2nd location is opening in CityCentre late 2017. I think I just found my birthday get-away in December.
